Family Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Does your child have a favorite book, tv or movie character, perhaps PJ Masks, Daniel Tiger, Pigeon or Captain Underpants? Now’s the time to enter our 4th annual character family pumpkin decorating contest! The rules are simple!

  1. Choose the book/character your family will showcase.
  2. Buy a pumpkin and create it (paint, decorate, add hair, etc.) to look like your character!
  3. Bring your completed (uncarved) pumpkin character to the library any time between October 10-16.  Pumpkins will be displayed beginning October 17, and patron voting will be ongoing through the remainder of the month with the top two winners announced on October 31!

Beginner Flute Lessons
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

As a continuation of our introductory KinderFlute classes, we will be offering beginner flute lessons to children ages 4-9! Group lessons are a great way to get a jump start with music through fun games and learning with friends. Music theory and playing the flute will be taught with KinderFlute teacher in training Katie Shesko. This is a four-week session for only $30! There is also a pay-as-you-go option available for $9/class.  If interest is high, we will continue beyond the initial four-week session.  There is a maximum of 12 students per class. Registration required. If registering for the 4-week session, you only need register ONCE on the Sept. 23 date.  If registering for pay-as-you-go, please register for each individual Saturday. Payment due before or at first class by cash, check or credit card. To pay in advance by credit card, please visit Katie’s website at www.katieshesko.com/online-registration

Options for the instrument include: rent to own through our certified instructor (please let us know if this is your option so that your flute can be here in time), bringing your own flue, or borrowing a flute during class time (only a few available).

Knit/Crochet for Charity

Description:

Make a colorful blanket for a child for Project Linus, or a chemo cap for a cancer patient at Hillman Cancer Center.  Patterns will be available, or bring one that you would like to try.

 

Supplies:

Child’s blanket: Washable yarn in kid-friendly bright colors; knitting or crochet needles.

Chemo caps:  Acrylic or cotton yarn, no wool or wool blends.

Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out! Meet the Firefighters Night
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

October 8-14 is Fire Prevention Week – the firefighters from Option Independent Fire Company will be at the library to talk about their jobs, show their fire gear/equipment, educate about how to stay safe, and teach about this year’s theme of making your family’s escape plan from two separate exits. Families will be also be able to go outside and see the fire trucks/equipment after the program. Registration required.

Teen Team Build - CANCELLED

We are happy to announce the formation of our first caregiver/child playgroup for children birth-3 years! AARP Safe Driving Course - CLASS FILLED

This 2-day course will review safe driving practices and current laws for those over 50 years old.

Payment will be made on the first day of class to the instructor.

Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.

You may receive a discount on your car insurance by taking this class.

Members of the Baldwin Board of Trustees are volunteers who donate their time and service to the library and it’s role in the community. The Board sets policy, fiscal goals and strategic direction in support of the Library’s mission and vision.

Baldwin Borough Public Library's Board of Trustees is composed of seven citizens of the community, appointed by Baldwin Borough Council. They serve 3-year terms and may be reappointed. The Board meets monthly at 7pm on the third Thursday of each month at the Library and all meetings are open to the public.

Paws for a Cause with Animal Friends
