Build a Better World - Adult Summer Reading Club

 

Don’t let the kids have all of the fun this summer. It’s simple and fun to join our summer reading club and the chance to win weekly prizes.

All you do is read or listen to a book, then fill out a paper slip (which is how your register) and put it in the library box in the main room of the library. Also, don’t miss our summer party on Friday, August 25.

Build a Better World Summer Reading Club for Kids/Teens

Our summer reading clubs are for all ages, birth through teens, and run from June 2 through August 25!  Simply stop into the library any day beginning June 2 to register.  Registration is ongoing throughout the summer!

  • Read-to-Me (birth through K) - children can register, then earn 1 token/ticket for each 10 books that are read to them
  • Independent Readers (Grades 1-5) - children can register, then earn 1 token/ticket for each hour read
  • Teens (Grades 6-12) - teens can register, then earn 1 ticket for each 50 pages read

There are chances to win prizes for all age groups, simply by reading!

Teen Musical Theater

You will not want to miss joining our second summer of teen musical theater! We urge students entering grades 6-12 to participate in this year’s lively production of Aladdin and His Wonderful, Magical Lamp! Rehearsals will be held twice a week (Mondays and Fridays) for two hours each day with a performance on August 11 at 7:00 pm at Harrison Middle School.  You must be available for most of the practices and for the performance date.  Parental permission forms are available at the library and must be completed before the first practice is held.  Registration required. Scripts will be available for pickup beginning June 12.

Practice dates: Mondays, June 19-July 31 and Fridays, June23-August 4 from 1:00-3:00 pm at the Baldwin Library

Tech Week: August7-10 from 1:00-3:00 pm at Harrison Middle School

Performance night:  August 11 at 7:00 pm at Harrison Middle School

Cruise into Kindergarten with Play K

Is your child entering Kindergarten in the fall? With materials provided through the Cruise into Kindergarten program grant by The Office of Commonwealth Libraries, we are excited to announce a new series of Play K programs for children and caregivers.  The Play K curriculum allows children entering Kindergarten in the fall to learn necessary skills through educational play and themed playscapes. All activities are aligned with the PA Learning Standards and Kindergarten readiness skills such as using scissors, using a calendar and taking turns. Registration required for each class.

Parent/Guardian Internet & Technology Safety Training

Free Internet and Technology Safety Training will be presented by A Child’s Place (ACP) staff Brian Johnson, ACP Police Liaison and retired City of Pittsburgh Police Detective and Charlene Morris, ACP Therapeutic Supports Coordinator.   The presentation will focus on the potential dangers that are present when using technology and will provide tips for safe use.   The use of popular apps (ex. Instagram, snapchat, etc.), cyberbullying, smartphone safety and child abuse awareness will be explored.  Registration required.

Library Board of Trustees Meeting

Members of the Baldwin Board of Trustees are volunteers who donate their time and service to the library and it’s role in the community. The Board sets policy, fiscal goals and strategic direction in support of the Library’s mission and vision.

Baldwin Borough Public Library's Board of Trustees is composed of seven citizens of the community, appointed by Baldwin Borough Council. They serve 3-year terms and may be reappointed. The Board meets monthly at 7pm on the third Thursday of each month at the Library and all meetings are open to the public.

4th Annual Stuffed Friend Sleepover

Bring your favorite stuffed friend to the library for a sleepover (but not one you’ll miss overnight)! Children will hear a story, have a snack and tuck their stuffed friend into “bed” somewhere in the library for the night.  Children return the next morning to pick up their stuffed friend, enjoy donuts and juice, and find out what “mischief” their friend got into overnight!
