Climate Change & The Environment - Hope for the Future
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

This presentation will address four major points related to the climate change crisis;

  • The evidence for Climate Change - the changes are all around us and are happening now. Scientific data supporting this conclusion will be presented.
  • Technical Solutions - there is a need to quickly transition to a new clean energy economy. Technology and techniques to accomplish this will make this possible.
  • Financial Innovation - for too long, subsidies for fossil fuels have not accounted for the true cost of our energy use. Whole cost accounting, carbon fees, and incentives for conservation and renewable energy can steer the economy in a new direction.
  • Political Response - strong leadership at all levels is needed to address this urgent crisis. Grassroots leadership can be the most powerful force for change

This program will be presented by Worcester resident Paul Popinchalk, a retired engineer with more than 40 years of experience in facilities management, energy conservation, and conventional and renewable power generation. Paul is a husband, father and grandfater, as well as a member of 350 Central Mass

My Soul's Journey to Redefine Leadership: A New Phoenix Rises from the Ashes of 9/11

An ordinary woman with extraordinary experiences, Virginia Swain's soul journey led to 25 years in the United Nations training Reconciliation Leaders--a program she designed and implemented at the UN after being invited to speak at the State of the World Forum and the Hague Appeal for Peace in 1999. After witnessing the World Trade Center tragedy first hand on September 11th, Virginia had a dream of a phoenix rising from ground zero-America's Soul-leading her to train American Reconciliation Leaders and begin America's Soul Community.  Join us for an author talk with book signing to follow.

Author Event & Book Signing with Ted Reinstein
2:30 PM - 4:00 PM

In talking about New England’s General Stores: Exploring an American Classic, his newest book, written in collaboration with his wife, Anne-Marie, broadcast journalist Ted Reinstein shares the rich and colorful history of this iconic institution, how they figured in the rise of early American commerce, why they began to fade, and why—like another New England icon, the diner—they have begun to come back and even be re-invented and re-imagined for a new era. Told with anecdotes from a variety of local landmark stores across the region, the presentation is accompanied by the award-winning photography of Art Donahue. The presentation runs about 50 minutes, followed by Q&A, and book purchase/signing.

Since 1995, Ted Reinstein has been a reporter for Boston’s WCVB-TV’s “Chronicle,” the nation’s longest-running locally-produced nightly newsmagazine. Ted is a native of Winthrop, Massachusetts, and lives just west of Boston.
