11:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Join the Fitchburg Publilc Library, the Concord Free Public Library, the Concord Museum, and the Mass Center for the Book for a FREE, fun family event in honor of author and naturalist Henry David Thoreau's 200th birthday.  Activities will take place on the train, and in Fitchburg and Concord!

Concord families will travel by train to the Fitchburg station where they will be met by Fitchburg families at 12:11 a.m.  All will walk to Riverfront Park and participate in a Storywalk, Raining Poetry, and journal decorating, and enjoy snacks and blackberry ice cream.  The Concord and Fitchburg families will then board the 1:23 train to travel to Concord.  On board the train children will draw or write in their new journals what they see from the train.  From the Concord Depot they will walk to the Concord Free Public Library to enjoy a short visit filled with fun including crafts, and meeting Sally Sanford, author, and Ilse Plume, illustrator, of Henry and the Huckleberries: a Visit with Mr. Thoreau at Walden Pond.  Fitchburg families will then return to Fitchburg on the 4:10 train.  All families will receive a copy of D.B. Johnson's Henry Hikes to Fitchburg.  The children will receive a backpack with reading activities associated with the book and mapping, and some surprises.

Details:

Concord families meet at the Train Depot at 11 a.m. to depart at 11:25 a.m.

Fitchburg families meet the incoming train at the Fitchburg station at 12:11 p.m.  Walk to Riverfront Park.
