Come and explore science through farming and food in the Farm to Table 4-H club this summer!  We will be digging deep to discover where our food comes from, growing our own food, and experimenting with cooking fresh and delicious foods - all while learning eye opening STEM concepts.  Hope to see your there!

Junior Programmers, welcome to the Programming Playground!  Our club is open to 8-12 year olds with an interest in computer programming.  As junior programmers, you will learn the fundamentals of programming using Scratch, an exciting new application developed at MIT for creating amazing animations.  During the club's sessions we will learn terminology, program structure, and program design.  Junior programmers!  Let's play!

Club leader, Jessica Neves, is a college student at the University of Rhode Island studying Computer Science as well as Animal Science.

September 3rd begins the fourth season of the Newport Public Library's Books and Authors Series. The series has brought to the library a number of important and interesting guests such as Peter Abrahams aka Spencer Quinn, Carla Neggers, John Katenbach, Hallie Ephron, Michael Sears, Tim O'Mara all mystery writers. Scholars Barbara Krauthamer, Kate Clifford Larson. Also a program entitled "Autism:the Missing Pieces of the Puzzle, "Robots in the Operating Room. A number of  doctors have  presented programs: Dennis Rosen, Dr. Thomas Lee and the list goes on. 

Thank you for the support you have given these programs. We are always looking for the next story, the next interesting person--so keep us in mind for future programs.

Jeff Belanger, Emmy-nominated Host of New England Legends on PBS, Ghostvillage.com founder, and Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures writer to offer an evening of true ghost stories, research, and evidence from around the world.

Belanger is a paranormal researcher, investigator, and is the author of more than a dozen books on the paranormal that have been published in six languages. He’s also the Emmy-nominated host, writer, and producer of New England Legends on PBS and the series writer/researcher for the Ghost Adventures show on the Travel Channel, which is now in its ninth season. He is a noted speaker and media personality who has lectured at libraries, universities, corporations, MENSA’s national conference, and has given a prestigious TEDx talk in New York City.

Belanger’s talk will include images, audio clips, and video from some of the world’s most infamous haunts plus a Q&A session for the audience. He will also have autographed books available for purchase.

Merrilee is a native of Seattle, Washington.  She travels solo internationally for a few months every winter.  She is currently a real estate agent in the Newport area and owns a guesthouse in Newport.

During this fun, interactive program, Ray Rickman will offer his opinions on book values, drawing on his years of experience as a long-time rare book dealer from Providence, as a historian, and as the former host of "Best Sellers" on public television.
In an Antiques Roadshow-type format, Mr. Rickman will cover what makes a book valuable and the type of books that have the highest retail value. He will offer complimentary market value-estimates of up to three books per person.

Mr. Rickman is the founder of The Rickman Group, a Providence-based management and consultant firm. Former State Representative Ray Rickman lectures throughout New England on a broad range of historical and cultural topics pertaining to American literature and African American history.
