Join Reiki master & Yoga teacher Annalee Jackofsky for a night of energy healing. After a brief guided meditation, Annalee will give everyone a short Reiki treatment. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat or towel and blanket.

In a village hidden in the mist-shrouded Northwest Vietnamese mountains resides an indigenous Hmong community, home to 12-year-old Di, part of the first generation of her people with access to formal education. Peter Bond will present the riveting story told in his co-authored book “The Leak” that captured headlines 25 year ago . The discovery of a leak at Brookhaven National Laboratory ignited a political and media firestorm that resulted in the firing of the lab’s contractor, the termination of scientific instruments, and threats to close the lab itself. The story is full of vivid characters, dramatic twists and turns, and sensational headlines in ways that bring to mind many of today’s events.
Peter Bond is a retired physicist who worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory for 43 years in a wide variety of roles, including interim laboratory director during much of the period covered by this book.

Eric Migdal of It’s All Relative Genealogy, will look at 4 of the largest DNA testing companies. He will cover Y-DNA testing and mitochondrial DNA testing as well as autosomal testing, and review the differences, pros, and cons of each type of testing, including analysis of data, pricing, and subscription costs. Shed the Meds Collection with Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office: Safely dispose of all unused or expired medications. Shed the Meds is for community members only. No commercial or doctor’s office expired medication disposal. Liquid medications and sharps will not be accepted.
E-Waste Electronics Recycling: Bring your old, used, broken, working or nonworking electronics to the Library’s parking lot. Data stored on all devices will be destroyed. Most electronics are accepted, such as computers, cell phones, printers, TVs, keyboards, cables, wires, circuit boards, and stereos. We cannot accept large appliances, microwave ovens, fluorescent bulbs, and alkaline batteries.
Paper Recycling: A shredding truck will be in our parking lot for on-site shredding of personal or non- personal documents. No binders, plastic, cardboard, carbon paper, or commercial papers please. Please place papers in containers you can leave behind. Limit is two bags or boxes per vehicle.

Chester is a 4.5-year-old Leonberger who loves to be with kids, is a great listener and hoping to help kids acquire a love of books and reading. Reading to dogs in a calm, non-judgmental atmosphere can bolster children’s confidence and encourage them to feel good about reading aloud in the classroom. It can also help an older child become comfortable with school presentations or public speaking. Kids have a natural affinity toward our canine friends. Chester's presence is calm and reserved. Reading in this environment without the anxiety of being judged can be very beneficial and exciting for our young ones. Please call to register for one 10-minute session with Chester each day.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Dr. Edna Kapenhas, who leads the breast surgery and breast surgical oncology program at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, and who is also the Medical Director of the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center, will speak about the risk factors, warning signs, and treatment options that are available to patients diagnosed with breast cancer.

Chester is a 4.5-year-old Leonberger who loves to be with kids, is a great listener and hoping to help kids acquire a love of books and reading. Reading to dogs in a calm, non-judgmental atmosphere can bolster children’s confidence and encourage them to feel good about reading aloud in the classroom. It can also help an older child become comfortable with school presentations or public speaking. Kids have a natural affinity toward our canine friends. Chester's presence is calm and reserved. Reading in this environment without the anxiety of being judged can be very beneficial and exciting for our young ones. Please call to register for one 10-minute session with Chester each day.
