Mindful Robotics Camp - Sponsored by the Friends of the Port Jefferson Free Library

Grades 4 - 8                                                                                                               

Using Lego Mindstorms EV3 Base Sets & Software, explore the world of engineering by building complex automated control systems with sensory tools and code blocks. A registration fee of $50 for Port Jefferson Free Library cardholders is due when signing up, checks only please, payable to the “Friends of the Port Jefferson Free Library”. In person registration for PJFL cardholders begins June 1 in the Teen Department. All others may register (space permitting) in person starting July 1 in the Teen Department. A registration fee of $100, payable by check only and made out to “Friends of the Port Jefferson Free Library”, will be due upon registration for all non-PJFL cardholders. Registration fee is non-refundable. Attendance at this camp is a prerequisite to join the Library’s Lego Mindstorms Team (PJFL cardholders only) for the coming school year. A mandatory informational FLL Robotics League Team meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 21 at 4 PM. All information about the team, including tryout date, will be announced at the meeting.

Battle of the Books

Mindfulness for Children

The goal of this workshop is to provide you with an opportunity to learn about mindfulness and how it can teach you positive ways to handle challenging emotions such as anger, fear and sadness.  With certified counselor, Donna Salerno, you will learn deep breathing techniques, practice some related yoga poses, take part in a “melted butter” relaxation exercise and create a “breathing stick” to bring home and begin using right away. Free Developmental Screenings from NY Therapy -THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELLED

If you have concerns about your child’s development, please schedule a free 20-minute  developmental screening with NY Therapy's Jackie Chartrand, MS. ED in Special Education.  You will receive a summary following the screening only if  your child is recommended for further evaluation. Those with concerns about children from birth to 2 years of age can be immediately referred to the county for services. This screening is not intended for those who are currently receiving services.  Please pick up a consent form and choose an appointment time at registration.

Our Generation: 50th Anniversary of Woodstock

Heartsaver CPR Class

Please note this class will be held at EMS Headquarters located at 25 Crystal Brook Hollow Road in Mt. Sini.  

The Heartsaver CPR AED course teaches CPR, Choking, and AED skills for adults, children and infants. You will learn how to give compressions and breaths to an infant, child, and adult, how to relieve a choking victim, and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).  Class fee $45.00. The Library will no longer accept payment for this class. You must click on this link to pay directly to the Port Jefferson EMS. For more information call the library at 473-0022 or the Port Jefferson EMS at 473-2519.
