Award-winning teacher and historian, Matthew Rozell, will give a presentation about the extraordinary story behind an iconic 1945 photograph, which records the story about Holocaust survivors left to die on a train in Nazi Germany and the American soldiers that liberated them. Rozell has chronicled the true account and helped to reunite the soldiers with the people that they saved six decades after that fateful morning. Rozell's book, A Train Near Magdeburg, A Teacher's Journey into the Holocaust and the Reuniting of the Survivors and Liberators 70 Years On is being made into a documentary film. Following Hitler’s rise to power, the Blumenthal family was trapped in Nazi Germany. They eventually managed to get to Holland, but soon thereafter, the country was occupied by the Nazis. Marion's family story, recounted in her memoir, Four Perfect Pebbles, is one of horror and hardship, but is also a story of courage, hope, and the will to survive.
