This book is a celebration of the Lunar New Year (2/10/24) and Korean-American culture and heritage. Mindy is excited to go to the annual Lunar New Year Parade in her new town! The Arch Stanton Quartet presents a program of original jazz compositions and readings called “Shadow & Act: Music Inspired by Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man.” “Invisible Man” is a classic American novel published in 1952, offering a first-person fictional account of an unnamed narrator’s attempts to navigate complex racial and social relations in the first quarter of the twentieth century. ASQ’s program includes three original jazz compositions inspired by scenes or motifs from “Invisible Man,” along with a rendition of Fats Wallers’ “Black and Blue” – a tune which figures prominently as a literary device in the novel. The performance also includes readings from Ellison’s book. No registration necessary.

The Rigid Heddle study group from the Golden Fleece Fiber Arts Guild is holding a day long weaving event. Bring a loom and fiber from your stash. We will share and swap, and do "freestyle" weaving. Don't worry about patterns, make something fun! Looms other than rigid heddle looms are welcome - if bringing a shaft loom please have it warped ahead of time. Pin looms etc also welcome. Bring your own brown bag lunch. Please expect to help us clean up at the end of the day.

There are many reasons to feel different and it's not easy to take those first steps into a place where nobody really knows you yet, but somehow you do it!
